Building firm in negotiations with creditors

Cork construction firm John F Supple is in negotiations with its creditors to allow it to stay afloat.

It is understood the company is working on a deal that would see it offer its suppliers 75c on each euro it owes.

Founded in 1987 the company was involved in a number of major projects in Cork including CIT’s students centre, the former Shandon Court Hotel, the new A&E department at the Mercy Hospital and the Capella Hotel in Castlemartyr.

The Bishopstown-based company employs more than 100 workers and is one of Munster’s biggest construction firms.

A company spokesman released a statement saying the firm, like many other construction companies, was in discussions with its suppliers against a backdrop of serious difficulties in the sector — but that the nature of the discussions were confidential.
