Hewlett Packard: 'Too early to say if Irish jobs will be lost'

Hewlett Packard says it is too early to know whether any Irish jobs will be lost in world-wide cuts it is making to its workforce.

The technology giant employs around 4,000 people at its facilities in Kildare, Dublin, Galway and Belfast.

Hewlett Packard is cutting 24,600 jobs from its global workforce on a phased basis over the next three years.

This follows its takeover of US technology services company EDS.

A spokesperson for Hewlett Packard said this morning that half of the job cuts will be made in the US, with the remaining 12,000 redundancies coming from its overseas operations.

The spokesperson said it was too early to say how many, if any of its Irish workforce will be laid off.

HP says the redundancies will be made in departments such as accounting, human resources, and legal affairs.
