Tullow finds oil in Uganda exploration well
Tullow Oil has announced an oil discovery in the Butiaba region of Block 2 in Uganda.
Drilling operations on the well started on August 25. Tullow said that the well was drilled to a total depth of 616 metres and encountered two oil zones. It said this is the shallowest section where oil has been encountered in Uganda to date.
The well was the third test on the Victoria Nile delta play within the Lake Albert Rift Basin.
CEO Aidan Heavey said: "Kigogole is the fifth successive discovery in the Butiaba region within the last five months - an excellent record of geological success and operational efficiency. This discovery reinforces the high potential of this area and in particular the Victoria Nile delta play."
Tullow Oil has interests in over 100 exploration and production licences across 22 countries and focuses on four core areas: Europe, Africa, South Asia and South America.
