There was positive news all round for the financial heavyweights with Bank of Ireland leading the way gaining 21c to €8.31. Anglo Irish Bank jumped 7c to €8.42 with AIB up 4c to €12.95 and Irish Life and Permanent up a modest 2c to €10.70.

Elsewhere, CRH emerged as one of the best performers of the day up 27c to €24. This comes on the back of news that CRH owned company Williaam Cox has been awarded the contract for the design, manufacture and installation of the Lansdowne Road stadium roof, façade and internal screens.

The €20m contract was signed today with John Sisk & Son, the main contractor for the redevelopment project, and the Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company, a joint venture between the IRFU and the FAI.
