Liquidators to discuss future of 420 jobs in Westmeath

Talks are due to take place today in an effort to save some of the 420 jobs hanging in the balance at the main employer in the Collinstown area of Co Westmeath.

The Iralco plant announced yesterday that it had gone into liquidation after struggling for some time to overcome the increasing costs of manufacturing in Ireland.

The workers are hoping that the liquidators may be able to keep the factory running and find a new investor.

They are meeting with management and unions this morning to see if any jobs can be salvaged.
