Ryanair to begin court appeal against price increases

Ryanair has today announced its intention to mount a court appeal against an increase in the price airlines are charged for check-in desks at Dublin Airport.

According to Ryanair, the Aviation Regulator approved a 50% increase in Dublin Airport check in desk charges, and a doubling of charges for check-in kiosks.

A Ryanair statement claimed: "These price increases, which are more than 10 times the rate of inflation, mean that the Regulator is again in breach of his statutory duties to ‘protect the reasonable interests’ of Dublin Airport users."

Speaking this morning, Ryanair's CEO Michael O’Leary said: "Airport costs at most UK and European airports are falling thanks to lower cost facilities and competition. But in Ireland this failed Regulator is allowing repeated, unjustified, inflation busting price increases at the DAA monopoly.

"This expensive and time consuming legal action would not be necessary if the Regulator was complying with his statutory duty to "protect the reasonable interests of users" from DAA monopoly abuse."
