David Byrne has advised Irish Life & Permanent plc that he intends to retire as a non-executive director of the company from the conclusion of the AGM to be held Friday May 23, 2008.

The announcement was made in conformity with Irish Stock Exchange Listing Rule 6.6.5 and FSA Listing Rule 9.6.11.
