The FTSE 100 Index slipped back below the 5900 barrier today as renewed credit crunch concerns put paid to the recent rally.

The London market closed down 24.6 points at 5891.3, with financials and banking stocks giving up recent gains after the Bank of England warned of further credit misery for borrowers.
