Marks & Spencer bowed to investor pressure today by unveiling a series of concessions over the proposed promotion of boss Stuart Rose.

The chief executive, who is due to become executive chairman in June, will have to stand for re-election every year and will not get an increase in his £1.13m (€1.4m) annual salary because of the dual role.
