The FTSE 100 Index broke through the 5900 barrier for the first time in over a month today as banking giants enjoyed a second day of strong gains.

The Footsie added 63.3 points to close at 5915.9, building on yesterday’s 2.6% hike amid renewed investor optimism in the bank sector.
