The London market came through a less volatile session today as good news for blue-chip firms Vodafone and Sainsbury’s steadied investor nerves.

A near 1% fall on Wall Street failed to do any major damage to the FTSE 100 Index, as Sainsbury’s shares proved the highlight with a 6% jump after the retailer posted better-than-expected sales figures.
