Federation launches online guide to aid home-buyers

An online guide to buying a new house in Ireland has been launched by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF).

Those on the look-out for a new roof over their head should click on www.homefacts.ie where they will find easy to understand guide written by the Irish Home Builders Association (IHBA), a constituent association of the CIF.

It guides people through the home buying process step-by-step, from getting initial mortgage approval to picking up the keys.

The online guide gives answers to questions such as “Can I afford to buy a house?” to “What is mortgage interest relief and stamp duty?” and “How do I rent a room?”

It also outlines the responsibility of developers, and your entitlements as a home-buyer.

Speaking at the launch of the new website, Hubert Fitzpatrick, director of the IHBA, said the website is a new source of information for people wanting to get on the property ladder, but who are confused about the process of buying a home.

“On www.homefacts.ie, home buyers can get a simple guide which takes them through the entire process, and answers all of their questions.”

Mr Fitzpatrick added: “They will also get up-to-date housing facts and figures, which will help them deal with the banks, developers, estate agents and solicitors.”

At the launch of www.homefacts.ie, the Irish Home Builders’ Association also introduced a new code of practice for its members to govern the establishment and operation of management companies.

The Construction Industry Federation also launched its annual housing report, which indicates the downward trend in housing output is set to continue and is predicted to fall to 37,000 in 2009, the lowest level of residential construction since 1996.
