580 to lose jobs at Arnotts

The Mandate trade union has stated that the redevelopment of the Arnotts site in the centre of Dublin will result in approximately 580 job losses later this year.

The company's multimillion euro redevelopment of its landmark site between Henry St and Middle Abbey Street will ultimately lead to a larger store employing a thousand workers in three years time.

The company currently employs approx. 900 workers.

A series of meetings is currently being organised between Mandate and management to discuss redundancy terms.

The union has said it will press for voluntary rather than compulsory redundancies.
