BT Ireland rolls out 8Mb broadband

Ultra-fast broadband has become a reality for many throughout the country with the news that BT Ireland claiming that it is now successfully rolling out up to 8Mb broadband service.

This new service is available for new BT Broadband customers in many parts of Dublin, as well as Naas, Douglas in Cork and Dooradoyle in Limerick.

"Speeds of up to 8Mb will literally transform the experience that consumers and businesses will have over the internet," says Emer Kennedy, Director of BT Ireland’s Consumer South Division

"For business users it means increased numbers of employees can use the internet, send and receive large business files, and they can future proof their companies as increasing levels of web applications make doing business more productive.

"All members of the household can now go online and carry out multiple activities – shopping, online gaming in real time, watching movies just like on TV, making internet calls, web chat as if your friends are there with you in the living room - simultaneously, and at lightning speed."

Phase One of this programme is currently being rolled out in the following exchange areas: Tallaght, Dun Laoghaire, Dolphins Barn, North Main (Dublin 1), Terenure, Merrion, Crown Alley, Beggars Bush, Swords, Clondalkin, Summerhill (Dublin), Blanchardstown, Naas, Douglas (Cork) and Dooradoyle (Limerick).

Irish consumers can enjoy up to 8Mb broadband for just €40 per month (including VAT) or €26.50 per month as part of a bundle. For businesses, up to 8MB broadband costs €40 per month (excluding VAT).

Phase Two will begin in June 2008 and will see BT Ireland roll out up to 8Mb broadband to additional locations throughout Ireland.
