FBI investigates subprime lenders in US
The FBI is investigating 14 mortgage companies suspected of possible fraud or insider trading violations in connection with loans made to risky borrowers, and related investments.
Agency officials did not identify the companies under investigation but said the wide-ranging probe, which began in the spring, involves companies across the industry, from mortgage lenders to financial firms that include home loans in securities sold to investors.
