SIPTU slams undermining of conditions at top hotels

SIPTU has expressed concern that the Burlington Hotel in south Dublin will be reopened in the near future with a new workforce on inferior pay and conditions.

The hotel is due to close its doors today with the loss of 188 full-time and 296 part-time jobs.

It has been sold to a developer who wants to build an office and residential complex.

However, SIPTU says it expects the hotel to reopen with a staff of lower-paid agency workers, just like the Jury's, Towers and Berkeley Court hotels in nearby Ballsbridge.
