Irish exports expected to decline

Irish exports are expected to decline in 2008 due to a slowdown in the world economy.

However, economists are predicting a reversal in the negative trend by the end of the year with a return to more positive figures.

Despite the downturn, manufacturing here is expected to remain strong.

Chief economist with IIB bank Austin Hughes says despite the recent slump, Ireland is still doing well - but the world economy is going to grow a little slower next year.
