Christmas rush to see 65,000 take off from Dublin Airport

Today is expected to be the busiest pre-Christmas travel day at Dublin Airport with more than 65,000 people set to take to the skies.

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has issued advice for travellers flying out over the festive season, urging people not to bring Christmas crackers as hand luggage, not to wrap presents and to arrive early to beat the queues.

They have also asked that passengers go straight to the security screening area after check-in.

“We are urging passengers to familiarise themselves with the EU aviation security regulations before coming to the airport so that security searches are kept to a minimum,” a DAA spokeswoman said.

“The volume of passengers travelling this Christmas season is up 10% over the same period last year.”

Passengers are also warned that kerb-side pick up will not be permitted in the departures set-down area.
