Dundrum Town centre wins retail 'Oscar'
Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin today won a major international award dubbed the ’Oscars’ for shopping centres.
The retail complex received the global merit award at the International Council of Shopping Centres International Design and Development Awards in the US.
More than 30 million shoppers have visited Dundrum Town Centre since it opened in 2005.
It has more than 100 stores, 28 restaurants and bars, a 12-screen cinema, a 220-seat theatre and a 3,400-space car park.
Plans are currently afoot to increase the centre to 150,000 square metres of retail space.
The Dundrum facility won the 2007 European Shopping Centre of the Year in April which automatically entered it into the global ICSC awards.
Director Don Nugent said: “This global award raises the bar on a global scale for shopping centre development.”
Founded in 1957, the ICSC represents 65,000 shopping centres in 80 countries worldwide. It began its international awards scheme in 1977.
