LSE set for FTSE 100 debut

The London Stock Exchange is to trade in the FTSE 100 Index for the first time in its history, it emerged today.

The UK exchange will enter the top flight share index on Tuesday after fund manager Invesco’s switch to the New York Stock Exchange.

The LSE’s rise to the premier tier comes six years after it listed on the stock market.

It also follows a momentous year for the exchange, in which it fought off a hostile takeover attempt from US rival Nasdaq and bought Milan-based Borsa Italiana to become Europe’s biggest exchange business.
