Warner snaps up games firm
'Lego Star Wars' computer games publisher TT Games has today been bought by Warner Bros as part of the Hollywood studio’s move to expand into the computer games industry.
The sale of Cheshire and Burnham-based TT Games comes just two years after the group was formed from the merger of developer Traveller’s Tales and games publisher Giant Interactive.
It is set to see TT Games controlling shareholder Jon Burton land a multi-million pound windfall, with the deal believed to be worth around £80m (€115m), although the two groups did not disclose the sum.
TT Games said the deal, which is yet to gain regulatory approval, “promises an exciting future” for the firm.
It will also give Warner Bros a greater in-house capacity for developing games and marks its first purchase of a UK computer games company.
The studio said it was planning to gain a “significant presence in the games space”.
