Sainsbury’s shares plummeted by 21% today after its Qatari suitors pulled the plug on a potential £10.6bn (€15.2bn) bid in another punishing day on the London market.

The supermarket led the third day of declines on the FTSE 100 Index, which closed down more than 1%, or 69.2 points, to 6461.4.
