US software giant creates 40 new jobs

Dublin beat off competition from other EU cities to attract 40 new jobs by US software giant Novell, it was claimed today.

The IDA-supported positions will be based at the company’s Sandyford headquarters where 125 are already employed.

The new staff will work with software clients in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Novell said it had chosen Ireland over other locations for the new jobs because of the availability of suitably experience staff and proximity with existing operations.

Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin said the investment highlighted the success of IDA Ireland in attracting hi-tech projects to the country.

“The investment will play a strategic role in the company’s development of its global markets and is a testament to Ireland’s constantly evolving information technology environment,” he said.

A Novell spokesman added: “The speed with which Novell was able to recruit skilled people with the appropriate language skills in Dublin was significant advantage in winning investment.”

Novell began operating in Ireland in 1995.
