Aer Lingus to increase fuel charges on long-haul fares
Aer Lingus is coming in for criticism from consumer groups after announcing an increase in its fuel surcharge on long-haul routes.
The airline says the levies will be increased by as much as 30% from November 1 due to rising oil prices.
The move means fares to US and Dubai will include surcharges of between €50 and €65.
The Consumers' Association says it does not accept Aer Lingus's argument because oil is purchased in dollars and the current strength of the euro against the dollar would wipe out the effect of rising oil prices for European airlines.
