Ireland remains one of the most successful countries in the world for attracting foreign investment, according to new figures today from National Irish Bank.

The bank's latest investment performance index ranks Ireland 13th out of 30 countries for attracting investment during the first nine months of this year.

However, it also shows that Ireland failed to attract any major multinational investment in the first three-quarters of the year.

NIB chief economist Ronnie O'Toole says this is not an immediate cause for concern as such large investments are few and far between, but the situation must still be closely monitored to ensure it does not become a permanent feature.
