WH Smith wary despite profits boost

Sweets and stationery retailer WH Smith today posted profits ahead of expectations, boosted by a strong performance at its travel arm.

The group reported underlying pre-tax profits of £66m (€95) for the year to August 31, a 29% improvement over last year and ahead of forecasts in the City of £63m (€91m).
