An Post opens banking HQ

An Post today opened the headquarters of its new banking business, Postbank, in Dun Laoghaire with the creation of 50 jobs.

Postbank will sell the financial products of Dutch retail bank Fortis through the national post office network.

The bank already employs 180 people across the country and products and services are available in 270 participating An Post branches.

These branches include Carlow, Clonmel, Cork, Dublin, Dundalk, Dun Laoghaire, Galway, Letterkenny, Limerick, Navan, Sligo, Tralee and Tullamore.

Postbank chief executive, Margaret Sweeney said: “In the current market, people want straightforward, transparent banking and insurance services that offer value for money which is what Postbank offers through its community based service in participating post offices.”

Fortis already has a joint venture deal with Belgian Post in Belgium.

An Post chief executive Donal Connell said: “Post offices have a proud history of providing services by people whom the public know and trust.”
