McDonald's to offer free wireless internet access

McDonald’s customers in the UK are to get free wireless internet access along with their burgers and fries, the firm announced today.

The fast food chain will make free wi-fi available in 1,200 UK outlets by the end of this year.

Its restaurant customers will be able to go online via their laptops, compatible mobile phones and games consoles.

The move goes one step further than some existing services, which provide wi-fi hotspots in public places but still charge users a fee.

McDonald’s Restaurants chief executive Steve Easterbrook said: “The launch of free wi-fi in our restaurants in the UK is an exciting move that we believe will further enhance our customers’ experience when they visit us.”

The service will be provided by network provider The Cloud.

It follows the increasing availability of wireless internet access in the UK.

Telecoms giant BT yesterday announced a scheme to allow its Total Broadband customers to share their wireless broadband connections with each other for no extra charge.
