National Irish Bank appoints new chief economist
National Irish Bank (NIB) has today announced the appointment of Dr Ronnie O’Toole to the newly-created position of chief economist.
Dr O’Toole’s role will be to provide analysis and commentary on Irish and global economic trends, in particular those elements of economic performance which impact the bank's personal and business portfolios.
“I’m delighted that someone of Ronnie’s ability and expertise has chosen to join us. He brings a fresh approach that fits well with our philosophy of ‘New Thinking in Banking’ and he has a very strong and interesting grasp of both Irish and world economics,” said NIB chief executive Andrew Healy.
“This senior appointment reflects National Irish Bank’s continued investment in building an organisation which can meet the diverse needs of our growing customer base.”
Dr O’Toole said: “This is a great time to join National Irish Bank. The organisation is building a strong position in the Irish market and has ambitious plans for growth. I’m very excited by the prospect of working with the senior management team to grow the bank’s business and its contribution to Ireland Inc. My primary focus will be the delivery of timely and informed insights into the workings of the Irish economy.”
Dr O'Toole (34) has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Dublin, Trinity College, as well as the Certificate in Actuarial Techniques from the Society of Actuaries in London.
