Quinn Group closes Newbridge plant
Quinn Group has announced its intention to close the Quinn Packaging Plant at Newbridge, Co Kildare with the loss of 41 jobs.
The plant has been in operation since 1987.
The plant became part of the Quinn Group in May 2004, following its acquisition of the Barlo Group plc. The decision to close follows a detailed review of the plant’s operation, which found it is not economically viable in today’s very competitive global market for packaging products.
It is proposed that the plant will continue some operations until the end of this year. However, it is intended that the majority of the jobs will cease by the end of October.
Management are to begin discussions immediately with employee representatives on the implications of this announcement.
Adrian Kane, SIPTU branch organiser gives union reaction the closure of Quinn Packaging.
