British Energy reports dip in profits

Nuclear power firm British Energy today said profits fell after problems at two plants continued to impact on its output performance.

Underlying earnings were £253m (€373m) in the quarter to July 1, compared with £289m (€426m) seen a year earlier. The decline in profitability came despite the company’s ability to forward sell electricity at prices considerably higher than current market prices.
