EasyJet introduces luggage fee

A low-cost airline today announced that passengers will have to pay a fee for all luggage going into the holds of its planes.

Until now, passengers with easyJet have not been charged for having just one item of hold luggage, with £5 (€7.40) being charged for subsequent bags.

From today, all reservations for travel from October 1 will be subject to a hold luggage fee of £2 (€2.96) per bag per flight for transactions made online.

The charge for airport transactions will be £5 (€7.40) per bag. More than 98% of easyJet reservations are made on-line.

EasyJet chief executive Andy Harrison said: “It’s about getting people to pack smarter, travel lighter and travel cheaper.”
