Dublin company clinches €8m Navy deal

The Irish Navy’s eight ships will each burn the equivalent of €1m worth of oil over the next two years.

The organisation’s fleet cruise the waters around Ireland to monitor breaches of fishing, pollution or drugs laws.

Dublin-based Topaz Energy Limited won the €8m contract to supply the marked marine gas oil until June 2009.

The special fuel must contain a safe level of sulphur and also meet Irish and EU quality standards.

The Naval Service’s eight vessels are equipped with state of the art machinery, weapons, communications and navigation systems.

Le Aisling, Le Aoife, Le Ciara, Le Eithne, Le Emer, Le Niamh, Le Orla and Le Roisin are based in Haulbowline, Cobh, Co Cork.

A total of two tenders were received for the Irish Naval Service contract.
