There was a positive mood around the Irish Stock Exchange today as the ISEQ index gained 169.72 points to 8651.84.

There was a positive mood around the Irish Stock Exchange today as the ISEQ index gained 169.72 points to 8651.84.

The biggest gain of the day came was in the construction sector with CRH gaining an impressive 85c to €33. Rival Grafton was up 18c to €10.08 as was Kingspan, up 21c to €17. McInerney Holdings were also up slightly by 3c to €2.26.

The financials sector had it's first positive morning in days with AIB boasting a gain of 55c to €19.52 with Anglo Irish Bank not far behind, up 35c to €13.72 and Irish Life and Permanent performing just as well with a gain of 33c to €18.29.

Elsewhere, there were very slight gains in the food sector- Kerry Group was up 5c to €18.85 as was Glanbia (up 5c to €3.95) and IAWS up a modest 3c to €14.68.
