Diet Coke with vitamins set for UK launch

A Coca-Cola drink boosted with vitamins is set to launch in the UK, the soft drinks giant said today.

Called Diet Coke Plus, it will apparently help the brand’s female fan base “keep up with today’s hectic lifestyle”.

One version of the sugar-free fizzy drink is fortified with vitamins B3, B12 and vitamin C.

A 350ml bottle contains 52.5% of the recommended daily allowance of those vitamins and helps maintain a “healthy immune system”, the firm said.

A second version of the same drink, called Diet Coke Plus with antioxidants, contains added green tea and vitamin C.

The drinks will primarily be targeted at Diet Coke fans – who are mostly women - in their twenties and thirties.

Coca-Cola’s marketing director for Great Britain Cathryn Sleight said: “We all want to keep healthy, but it’s not always easy with today’s busy lifestyle.

“Diet Coke Plus offers two great ways to enjoy your favourite Diet Coke break while getting a little bit extra to see you through the day.”

The move to give Diet Coke some health benefits follows the US launch of a “calorie burning” drink developed jointly by Coca-Cola and Nestle.

Called Enviga, the fizzy green tea is said to boost the metabolism which encourages the body to burn more calories.
