New chairman for Morrisons

Supermarket chain Morrisons today named the successor to chairman Ken Morrison, who is to step down after more than 50 years with the company.

Morrisons said that current Trinity Mirror chairman Ian Gibson will join the group as deputy chairman in September before succeeding Sir Ken by next March.

Morrison joined the firm founded by his father in 1952 and took over as chairman and managing director four years later. He stepped down from the day-to-day running of the business in 2005.
