BBC bosses 'give up bonuses'
BBC executives are believed to have waived their annual bonus after the corporation failed to meet its diversity targets, it has emerged.
Sources said that director general Mark Thompson and other top bosses had decided to forego their annual bonuses which were collectively worth tens of thousands of pounds.
It is believed that the move followed the failure of the BBC to meet a number of targets on the percentage of black and Asian workers it employed.
Gerry Morrissey, general secretary of the broadcasting workers union Bectu, said that if confirmed, he would welcome the decision.
“We believe this should also apply to top managers in all categories throughout the BBC,” he said.
A spokeswoman for the BBC said the corporation did not discuss pay until its annual report was published on July 3.
