Ernest Jones and H Samuel owner Signet today said the performance gap was widening between its UK and US divisions after trading remained weak in America.

The jeweller revealed that first quarter pre-tax profits slipped 5% to US$50.8m (€38m) after trading woes in the US, which make up three-quarters of the group’s annual sales.
