Following today's meeting the Governing Council, the ECB has increased its base rate by a quarter of 1%.

Following today's meeting the Governing Council, the ECB has increased its base rate by a quarter of 1%.

The move was widely expected, and now brings the rate to 4%, its highest level in six years.
