Improving flexibility and job security in the labour market will be discussed at a conference in Dublin today.

The half-day event is organised by MEP Proinsias De Rossa who sits on the Employment and Social Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.

The term ’flexicurity’ refers to flexibility and job security in the context of the labour market. The phrase was coined by Danish trade unions concerned about the so-called "race to the bottom" drive by firms to reduce pay and conditions for workers.

The 'Labour Law and Flexicurity – What Is Europe Up To?' conference in Liberty Hall will be addressed by Labour’s employment spokesman Ruairi Quinn and a speaker from the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions.
