ScS sofa sales hit by warm weather
Specialist sofa retailer ScS Upholstery today blamed the warm weather for “very disappointing” sales over the Easter weekend.
With households staying away from the shops during the hot spell, the England-based group said the weather impact compounded what was already a difficult trading environment.
The update came as the Sunderland company revealed that like-for-like sales during the 26 weeks to March 31 had fallen by 9%.
However, it said total sales had risen by 11% and advised that it was entering the May Bank Holiday period with a strong balance sheet and cash flow.
It said trading over the next two extended weekends would be paramount to meeting its financial result for the 10 months to the end of July. The company has a shortened accounting period following a change in its reporting calendar.
