Irish pizzas on sale in Harrods
Irish-made pizzas are now being sold in the world-famous Harrods store in Knightsbridge in London.
The Alternative Pizza company, based in Ballincollig, Co Cork, was founded in 2004 by chef Dave Flynn.
The pizzas are also being sold in Fresh and Wild, the upscale UK multiple fresh food specialist.
In this country, they are sold in SuperValu, Centra, Dunnes Stores, Spar, Superquin and other leading independents as well as upmarket food shops such as O’Driscoll’s in Cork, Donnybrook Fare and Morton’s in Dublin.
“We are delighted with this latest breakthrough,” Blackrock native Dave said.
Harrods, with 330 departments and several food halls, was one of the most visited shopping stores in the world.
Harrods will carry four of the Alternative pizza company’s innovative products, including a Spelt Hot Chilli Pizza and its award winning Four Irish Cheeses Pizza.
Dave started the Alternative Pizza Company two years ago.
His motivation was to provide shoppers with a high nutrition pizza with all natural ingredients.
“We use only the finest Irish ingredients with no artificial preservatives, colourings or additives and no GMO ingredients,” added Dave.
People cared about what they were eating today and in response they had positioned the company in the super premium market.
Last year, the company had a turnover of €1,100,000. This is expected to rise to €1.5m this year.
They had a number of new exciting prospects in the pipeline including considering setting up a new manufacturing base in the UK.
“If demand continues to increase and we secure more accounts, we could replicate what we are doing here in the UK,” Dave said.
