Shares in Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel resumed trading on the London and Paris stock markets today nearly a year after being suspended due to the group’s debt mountain.

The company’s shares returned to trading in the UK and France after Eurotunnel announced late last week it had worked out a deal to restructure its debt, reducing the amount to €4.18bn.

Eurotunnel’s debt had been as high as €9.13bn.

The group said in a statement on Friday that current shareholders would get one share and one warrant in Groupe Eurotunnel for each existing share under the proposals, but it needs at least 60% of shareholders to accept the offer for financial restructuring to succeed.
