Kilbeggan Distillery restarts whiskey production
The Kilbeggan Distillery in Co Westmeath begins production of whiskey today for the first time since closing down more than half a century ago.
The whiskey will be distilled using the same potstills that were used there more than 130 years ago.
It is believed the Kilbeggan landmark is the oldest distillery in the world.
Chairman of the distillery John Teeling said the whiskey will not be ready for consumption until 2014.
