SIPTU shop stewards to discuss Aer Lingus proposals
SIPTU shop stewards are meeting today to discuss the Labour Court's recommendations on resolving a dispute over Aer Lingus' cost-cutting plans.
The court has ruled that Aer Lingus breached agreements with staff when it tried to impose new contracts last month that include cuts in overtime and holiday pay.
The court backed the recently-privatised airline's moves to reduce costs and said staff needed to be more flexible in their work practices.
However, it said any cuts must be agreed during consultation with unions and workers must be compensated for any sacrifices they make to protect the company's future.
