The European Union and the US are restarting stalled talks today aimed at expanding air travel.

EU transport commissioner Jacques Barrot and German transport minister Wolfgang Tiefensee, whose country holds the EU’s rotating presidency, said preliminary talks with US officials in Washington were positive.

European negotiators were disappointed late last year when the US government scrapped a draft agreement reached in earlier negotiations that would have permitted foreign investors to have more control of US airlines.
