Two hundred jobs are under threat in Limerick.

Thomson Scientific and Healthcare - which is based in Plassey - is considering moving some of its operations to India, in order to cut costs.

Management has now begun a thirty-day consultation period with its employees.

It comes just two days after Motorola announced that it's considering closing its plant in Cork, with the loss of 350 jobs.

And Vodafone is also seeking 100 voluntary redundancies in Dublin.

Pat Delaney of IBEC says global companies are pulling out of Ireland because it's too expensive: "It's costing them more to produce their products and they're getting less on foreign markets.

"Unless we do something radical we'll be reading business obituaries like this every day of the week."
