Dublin Port crew suspended for refusing to work amid storm

Five workers at Dublin Port have apparently been suspended for refusing to man vessels during the current storms.

The Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union said the tug-boat crew were suspended for refusing to put their safety at risk.

It says the men, two of whom continued to work under protest, had no training, no ships' papers and were not equipped with life-jackets or safety harnesses.

The union says it has written to the chief executive of the Dublin Port Authority to raise the matter, but he insisted there were no safety issues to be concerned about.

The TEEU is hoping to enter talks today with a view to getting the situation resolved.
