ACCA has today warned of a general shortage of accountants in Ireland.

Many newly-qualified accountants now choose a career in the financial services or corporate sector ahead of audit. As a result many accountancy practices have struggled to fill vacant positions.

It would be expected that the recent decision by Minister for Trade and Commerce Michael Ahern to refer the issue of auditor liability to the Company Law Review Group may encourage a greater number of accountants to pursue audit as a career.
