UK interest rate stays at 5%
The Bank of England kept UK interest rates on hold at 5% today – as further signs of a booming housing market raised the prospect of a hike next year.
The Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) left the cost of borrowing unchanged after increases in August and November took rates to the current five-year high.
